CIVIC

CIVIC, the Canadian Impact Venture Investors Coalition.

Why

Why?

CIVIC was created by people who care deeply about environmental and social impact. And who believe that entrepreneurship and investment are ways to increase it, when done in a structured and intentional way.

Born out of the needs of impact investing professionals: to understand the nuances, learn from each other, compare our approaches, and develop new ones. Because collectively, we want to see more impact investing to meet the pressing needs of society and the environment, as defined by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN.

If you share the same convictions, join us as a member. Together, we will accomplish even more, better, for the benefit of society and of the planet.

What

What?

The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) defines impact investment as "investments that aim to generate positive and measurable social and environmental benefits, alongside a financial return."

The three key principles are intentionality (which aims to), measurability (positive and measurable) and financial return (which can vary).

The Canadian Impact Investment Work Group published an important report on the state of impact investing in the country in May 2024.

How?

CIVIC is structured around five major pillars:

Knowledge, learning together.

Monthly meetings for members, both in-person and online.

Community, deepening your network.

A pan-Canadian network with local chapters in several major Canadian cities.

Training, deepening your practice.

A training program for aspiring impact investors. The first cohort: Canadian impact investment circles.

Who?

Who?

CIVIC has two main member categories: professional investment members and entrepreneur members.

Our initial focus has mostly been on developing resources for investors. We plan to announce activities and resources for entrepreneurs before the end of 2025.
